The Color of 2019: Living Coral

The Color of 2019: Living Coral

December is the month where everyone is excited about the arrival of the holidays; however, if you are a graphic designer you might be more excited by the unveiling of Pantone’s new color of the year. Since 2000, in early December, Pantone unveils a new color for the year to come.

In the last years, we got the chance to have two different pastel tints in 2016, a fresh green called Greenery in 2017 and a mysterious purple called UltraViolet last year.

What graphic designers have been waiting for has just happened: the company did reveal the twentieth color of the year a few days ago. 2019’s winner is Living Coral, a color directly inspired by nature and more specifically by sea corals. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at Pantone, described this special tint as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” According to the company, Living Coral is a color which is in stark contrast to the growing impact of technologies and social media. It is a tint that makes us remember our humanity and our desire to be and connect with others. In addition, this color also brings optimism and joy.

To add Living Coral to your website, chose the food blog or the accessories shop designs as they are already using it as their main color, or use it as a touch by changing the color of the buttons or titles. Use the HEX code #FF6F61 to add it.

To arrange Living Coral with other colors, Panton suggests few color palettes. Here are some:
